2,400 migrants apprehended in the Tucson sector during the week of Oct. 11

Two thousand four hundred undocumented migrants were apprehended from October 5 to 11, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Tucson Sector Chief John R. Modlin's October 11 post on X.

According to CBP agents, they were involved in 284 federal criminal cases and 21 rescues during this period. They seized 14 pounds of fentanyl, 24 pounds of cocaine, and three firearms. Modlin said that agents intervened in 14 narcotics events and disrupted 40 human smuggling events, also recovering two stolen vehicles.

Weekly apprehensions have decreased from 13,300 in the same week of October 2023 and are also down from 2,500 the previous week of 2024. A graphic included in Modlin’s post indicates that during September, there were 10,100 apprehensions of undocumented migrants compared to 48,100 in September 2023.

The Tucson sector covers much of Arizona, extending from the border with New Mexico to Yuma County’s border over approximately 262 miles. There are about 3,700 agents across nine stations within the sector located in Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox. This information is available on the CBP’s webpage dedicated to the sector. Originally known as the Nogales Sector and established on July 1, 1924, its headquarters moved to Tucson two years later.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for safeguarding national borders and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates at 328 ports of entry and protects approximately 7,000 miles of land borders and about 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
