2,400 migrants apprehended in Tucson sector for the week of Sept. 27

More than 2,000 undocumented migrants were apprehended in the Tucson sector in the week ending September 27, 2024, according to a post on X by John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent for the Tucson sector.

According to Modlin's post, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were also involved in 256 federal criminal cases and conducted 11 rescues. They seized 97 pounds of cocaine and intervened in 11 narcotics events. Agents seized $650 and disrupted 34 human smuggling events as well.

Weekly apprehensions have decreased from 11,800 during the same week in September 2023. They are also down from 2,500 the previous week of 2024, according to a graphic included in Modlin’s post. During September, there were 10,100 apprehensions of undocumented migrants compared to 48,100 apprehensions in September 2023.

The Tucson sector covers much of Arizona, from the border of New Mexico to Yuma County’s border, approximately spanning 262 border miles. There are about 3,700 agents across nine stations within the sector located in Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox. This information is available on CBP’s webpage focused on the sector. Originally known as the Nogales Sector and created on July 1, 1924, the sector headquarters moved to Tucson two years later.

The US Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates at 328 ports of entry and protects over 7,000 miles of land borders and approximately 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
