Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Tucson Sector apprehended a Cuban national involved in a smuggling attempt near Benson on October 13, as reported in an October 24 post on X by Tucson Sector Chief Sean McGoffin.
According to McGoffin's October 25 post on X, the individual's asylum case had been terminated by an immigration judge in September. The Cuban national was arrested for attempting to smuggle three Mexican migrants near Benson, Arizona. McGoffin also said that two of the three smuggled migrants had previously been ordered removed from the United States.
The Tucson sector encompasses much of Arizona, stretching from the border of New Mexico to Yuma County’s border, covering approximately 262 border miles. There are about 3,700 agents stationed across nine locations within the sector: Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox. Originally known as the Nogales Sector and established on July 1, 1924, the sector headquarters moved to Tucson two years later.
