The City of Tucson has been awarded $2.5 million in federal funds to support affordable housing initiatives. The grant, part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program, aims to alleviate housing shortages and provide assistance to low-income families.

Mayor Regina Romero commented on the award: "This funding is crucial for our ongoing efforts to ensure that every Tucsonan has access to safe and affordable housing."

City officials plan to allocate the funds towards various projects, including the development of new housing units and the rehabilitation of existing structures. These efforts are expected to benefit hundreds of families struggling with housing insecurity.

Housing Director Steve Kozachik emphasized the importance of this grant: "We are committed to using these resources effectively to make a significant impact on our community."

The city's approach includes partnerships with local non-profits and private developers, aiming for a comprehensive strategy to address affordable housing needs.

"We look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders involved," said Kozachik.
