Rep. Grijalva Statement on $290 Million in Grant Funding for Border Humanitarian Assistance

WASHINGTON – This week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), announced it would publish a funding notice under the new Shelter and Services Program (SSP) for more than $290 million to 34 non-federal entities for temporary shelter and other eligible expenditures for migrants who have been processed and provisionally released from DHS custody while awaiting the outcome of their immigration proceedings.

Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) issued the following statement:

“I’m encouraged that the Biden administration is taking steps to ensure communities and non-governmental organizations in southern Arizona receiving migrants are compensated for their humanitarian efforts. It’s critical that we continue to surge federal funding for organizations that support asylum seekers. I will continue to prioritize addressing root causes, humanitarian assistance, and the needs of the borderlands.”

Awards include:

  • $11,093,294 – World Hunger Ecumenical Task Force, Inc, Yuma County, AZ
  • $8,364,948 – Pima County Grants Management, Pima County, AZ
  • $4,150,153 – World Hunger Ecumenical Task Force, Inc, Maricopa County, AZ
  • $150,000 – World Hunger Ecumenical Task Force, Inc, Cochise County, AZ
  • $132,000 – World Hunger Ecumenical Task Force, Inc, Mesa County, AZ
