Pima Joint Technical Education District (JTED) students will be able to experience augmented reality (AR) simulations starting this fall.
A grant from the Rotary Club of Tucson has been provided to JTED which will be used to provide equipment necessary for AR simulations for students, according to KGUN 9 News.
The students will don AR glasses for realistic AR patient simulations, and they will be able to virtually see X-rays, charts, electrocardiograms, and patient information, KGUN 9 News reported. They will also work with a "mid-fidelity mannequin."
“We’re introducing a mid-fidelity mannequin named Aries and he will be used to train not only our licensed nursing students, but our medical assistant students,” Beth Francis, healthcare professions program manager, told KGUN 9. “I just hope we are able to provide the best possible education in healthcare because we are in severe shortages, and we need to do things to make our kids want to come here and learn.”
The school hopes to make patient simulations seem more realistic, according to the report.
“This gives them a tremendous advantage of being able to see two things at once,” Superintendent, Kathy Prather, told KGUN 9.
