Pima County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters to be named in honor of Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik (Ret.)

Award

Pima County Sheriff's Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday to name the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters, located at 1750 East Benson Highway, Clarence W. Dupnik – Sheriff’s Center, in honor of retired Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik.

Clarence W. Dupnik was appointed Sheriff in 1980, after having already served from 1958 until 1977 with the Tucson Police Department. For the next 35 years, he continued his tenure as Sheriff until retiring in 2015.

The Board of Supervisors recognized Sheriff Dupnik’s exceptional and innovative service, saying of him that “Sheriff Dupnik’s Legacy is his humble commitment and noble dedication to public safety and service to the citizens of Pima County. He led with impeccable personal integrity, sound ethical foundation, and exhibited the highest level of professionalism during his tenure. His honorable service and tireless efforts to thwart criminal offenders in our community through crime-fighting programs and innovative ideas have made Tucson a safer place, and his effective leadership and accomplishments as Sheriff of Pima County for 35 years are far too integral to accentuate on paper.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is proud to have our headquarters building named in honor of Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik, inspiring current and future generations of department employees to emulate his commitment to ethical, professional, and innovative law enforcement.
