University athletes achieve high GPAs in spring semester

The University of Arizona's student-athletes achieved significant academic success during the spring 2024 semester, maintaining an average GPA of 3.252. This figure represents the second-highest spring semester GPA in the history of the university's athletic department. The cumulative GPA for this period reached a new peak at 3.336, surpassing last year's record of 3.332.

The department has now recorded thirteen consecutive semesters with an average GPA above 3.0. Seven athletic programs set new records for their highest spring semester GPAs: women's cross country, gymnastics, women's tennis, volleyball, men's basketball, football, and men's tennis.

Women's cross country led with a GPA of 3.905 while men's tennis followed closely with a GPA of 3.637.

In total numbers:

- 356 student-athletes (75.9%) earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

- 215 student-athletes (45.8%) earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

- 92 student-athletes (19.6%) achieved a perfect GPA of 4.0.

- Sixteen athletic programs posted GPAs above 3.0.

Men's programs averaged their highest ever spring semester GPA at 3.075.

This academic achievement is part of broader successes for Arizona athletics, which also reported its highest Graduate Success Rate score at 89% in December 2023—a rise of twenty-two percent since 2011.

During the academic year of 2023-24, four Wildcats were awarded Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete honors: Hope Hisey (soccer), Gile BiteStarkute (women's golf), Gustaf Strom (men's tennis), and Allie Skaggs (softball). This marks the largest number of such awardees since the year 2014.
