The City of Tucson’s Housing First team is seeking community volunteers to help assemble care packages for people experiencing homelessness. The care kits contain essential items such as non-perishable food, water, hygiene products, and other necessities to support individuals who are not housed. The completed kits are distributed by outreach workers from the Multidisciplinary Outreach Teams (MDOT), a component of Housing First.

Thelma Magallanes, the MDOT coordinator, said this is a helpful opportunity for community organizations to come together as a group to assemble the kits. “We aim to gather a group of 15 to 20 community members to help. The volunteer session is expected to last approximately 2 to 3 hours,” she added.

The volunteer work will be done at the El Pueblo Community Safety Hub building, located at 195 W. Irvington Rd., immediately east of the Laos Transit Center. Magallanes mentioned that volunteers can be scheduled at a convenient time, including Saturday mornings. She can be contacted at thelma.magallanes@tucsonaz.gov or at 520-651-8017.
