The City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the Ward 6 Council Office, and the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) will be hosting a groundbreaking event to mark the beginning of the Grant Road Phase 3&4 Improvement Project. Scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 4240 E Grant Road, the event will feature speeches by key figures including Mayor Romero, RTA/PAG Director of Transportation Services Rick Ellis, and DTM Director Samuel Credio.

According to the announcement, the project will encompass various enhancements such as six travel lanes, landscaped medians, buffered bike lanes, sidewalks, transit stop upgrades, indirect left turns, and protected intersection improvements at specific points along Grant Road. Additionally, a substantial 96-inch diameter underground storm drain system will be installed throughout the project area.

The Regional Transportation Authority, known for its significant investments in transportation projects, including the upcoming Grant Road improvements, has a history of allocating funds to enhance mobility, safety, and the overall quality of life in the region. Operating on a half-cent excise tax from its special taxing district within Pima County, the RTA's efforts are aimed at realizing a 20-year regional transportation plan approved by voters in May 2006.
