Tucson Mayor Regina Romero has extended an invitation to residents to partake in a special Earth Day Clean Up Event in the 29th Street Thrive community. The 29th Street Thrive Zone, an area encompassing Alvernon Way, 22nd St., Craycroft Rd, and 29th St, was established by Mayor Romero with the aim of enhancing investments to uplift residents' quality of life.

"Our expansion into the 29th Street Thrive Zone will bring people, businesses and organizations together with the City to help identify the investments needed to revitalize this area. This day of service is a great way to kick off Earth Week by caring for Tucson neighborhoods," expressed Mayor Regina Romero.

Expressing gratitude towards the participants, Mayor Romero stated, "I want to thank the neighbors, City of Tucson employees, and Tucson Clean and Beautiful. This is a great example of what we can accomplish when we come together."

The Earth Day Team Up to Clean Up Event is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 19th from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Pima Community College, 29th Street Coalition Center, located at 4355 E. Calle Aurora. Volunteers are encouraged to participate and bring their enthusiasm to contribute to the beautification of Tucson neighborhoods.

The initiative, led by City of Tucson employee volunteers in collaboration with community partners and volunteers, aims to host citywide cleanup efforts to enhance the aesthetics of Tucson neighborhoods. In the spirit of community involvement, local organizations, businesses, and neighbors are also encouraged to organize their cleanup events.

The program, made possible with the support from the Environmental and General Services Department, provides tools and assistance in hauling away debris for residents. In the 2024 Team Up to Clean Up initiative, a total of 668 volunteers collected 576 bags of litter, dedicating 1,104 volunteer hours, including the time contributed by City of Tucson staff.
