On April 7, agents from the Three Points Station arrested Arturo Arteaga-Salinas, a Mexican national with a history of felony convictions for sex crimes, during an operation that led to the apprehension of five smuggled migrants. Arteaga-Salinas now faces prosecution for this crossing.

According to an April 12 post by John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, Arteaga-Salinas has previous convictions for sodomy and lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14.

The Three Points Station was established in January 2011 and initially staffed with 86 agents from Casa Grande Station and sectors in Texas. By the following year, the Tucson station had assumed control and reclassified Three Points as a substation of its sector. The original detail of agents was gradually replaced by a permanent staff of over 200 agents by late 2015.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection website provides further information on the operations at Three Points Station. It states that its agents patrol 15.79 miles of international border, supported by all-terrain vehicles, a motorcycle unit, a Mountain/FLEX team, and a Sensor Team.

The U.S. Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security tasked with safeguarding the nation's borders and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates across 328 ports of entry while protecting approximately 7,000 miles of land borders and 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
