The City of Tucson has announced a road closure on Congress Street at Silverbell Road for the installation of an underground water line. The closure is scheduled for Monday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 16, 2024, as crews work to carry out the necessary infrastructure improvements.
Travelers in the area are advised that "Congress Street at Silverbell Road is scheduled to close to all through traffic to allow crews to install an underground water line across the roadway, just west of South Cuesta Avenue," according to an unnamed spokesperson. To accommodate the closure, "Travel will be detoured around the closure and directed to use Grande Avenue and Fresno Street."
The installation of the water line is part of the broader Prop 101 improvement project on Silverbell Road, as mentioned by another unnamed spokesperson: "This work is associated with the current Prop 101 improvement project taking place on Silverbell Road from Congress Street to St. Mary’s Road."
The City of Tucson's initiative, Tucson Delivers Better Streets, is funding these infrastructure improvements. The program, which amounts to $100 million, was made possible by Tucson voters who approved a half-cent sales tax increase in May 2017. The unnamed spokesperson expressed gratitude, stating, "Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your neighborhood streets."

The City of Tucson continues to prioritize the enhancement of its infrastructure for the betterment of the community, and the cooperation of residents during this road closure is greatly appreciated.
