Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs honored Jeannette Garment, a member of the City of Tucson’s Housing First team, for her work with homeless individuals and personal resilience. Garment was previously recognized with the “Outstanding Achievement in Overcoming Homelessness” award at the Arizona Housing Coalition's annual conference.

Jeannette Garment, who works at the Wildcat Inn on North Oracle Road, expressed her surprise and gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It was quite a surprise to get the invitation. I've never really won any awards for anything."

Allison Chappell, a Community Services Manager at the Wildcat Inn, highlighted Garment's journey, from moving to the inn in April 2022 after experiencing homelessness to securing her own apartment and becoming a full-time Housing Services Agent with HCD's Housing First division. Chappell described Garment as a valuable employee and friend, noting her two years of sobriety and passion for horse training.

Garment emphasized the challenges faced by individuals who have experienced homelessness, stating, "It requires tremendous personal strength and community support." She encourages others to advocate for themselves and seek help when needed.

Reflecting on her initial skepticism about the Housing First program, Garment acknowledged the support she received, saying, "It's not empty promises. I really love the staff here and they've been extremely helpful."

Since its opening in February 2022, the Wildcat Inn has helped 347 individuals find housing, contributing to the City of Tucson’s Housing First program's efforts to provide low-barrier permanent housing solutions for over 1,000 Tucsonans each year.
