Tucson Mayor Regina Romero presented her annual Report to Tucsonans on January 7 at the Tucson Convention Center. During her address, she reflected on past achievements and outlined future plans, focusing on a half-cent sales tax proposal set for a vote on March 11.
The proposed Proposition 414, known as the "Safe & Vibrant City" tax plan, aims to support five key areas: Affordable Housing & Shelter, Neighborhood & Community Resilience, Enhanced Emergency Response, Technology Investments, and Capital Investments for First Responders.
Romero highlighted the challenges facing Tucson and other cities globally. "It is important to acknowledge the challenges Tucson and cities around the world are facing: a housing crisis, a climate crisis, an opioid and fentanyl crisis, the growing number of unsheltered individuals, and aging infrastructure," she stated. She emphasized recognizing successful initiatives and continued investment in them.
In addition to discussing these issues, Mayor Romero addressed topics such as economic development, future policies and investments, crime prevention, among others.
