WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, this week secured nearly $5 million for projects in Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District. The funds were provisionally awarded during this week’s House Appropriations Committee markups, one of the initial stages of the committee’s annual budget process.

“My number one priority is to secure real, impactful results that will have a permanent effect in our district,” said Congressman Ciscomani. “As Arizona’s only member on the House Appropriations Committee, I’m proud to leverage my position to fight and secure millions in funds and bring these wins back to my constituents. These are just the beginning of what we are working on for our constituents.”

Congressman Ciscomani worked to secure the following funds through Community Project Funding requests:

  • $859,000 for the Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox: These funds will be used for structural upgrades to the Main Entry area and Emergency Department, which are currently 50 years old.
  • $274,000 for the Town of Duncan and Hunter Estates Drainage Mitigation and Design in Duncan: Funding will be used for 20 drains to immediately mitigate ongoing flood issues in the Hunter Estates development. It will also fund 21,100 feet of street for transportation usability and connectivity.
  • $2 million for the Town of Pima’s Volunteer Fire Department in Pima: This money will allow for the construction of a new multi-use facility to serve as the town’s only fire station and community-use facility. The current fire station is located in a 50-year-old dilapidated community building that does not accommodate today’s modern fire trucks and equipment.
  • $1.8 million for Western Rural Water and the Central Arizona Irrigation and Drainage District: This money will fund new wells and pipelines to improve existing irrigation systems, helping to replace lost surface water caused by the unprecedented drought in the Colorado River Basin.
The projects in Willcox, Duncan and Pima were funded through the House Appropriations Committee’s FY24 Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration package. The Western Rural Water project was funded through the committee’s FY24 Energy and Water Development bill. The committee is set to consider an additional 10 projects in upcoming packages in which the congressman requested additional funds for the district.

Congressman Ciscomani is both the only freshman and only member of the Arizona congressional delegation on the House Appropriations Committee.
