Arizona Athletics will continue its celebration of the 50th anniversary of the enactment of Title IX with a day-long recognition on Thursday, June 23 on the campus of the University of Arizona. The athletics department's special programming begins with a field day for youths, grades kindergarten to eighth, to participate in sports and connect with Arizona's student-athletes. Hall of Fame administrator and Arizona Trail Blazer, Rocky LaRose, will be the morning's keynote speaker. The department will also host an informative panel to discuss the history of Title IX and its impact on women's sports at Arizona and throughout the nation.
"We are excited to welcome the Southern Arizona community to this historic day at Arizona Athletics," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "June 23 represents a landmark day for women's sports. A day that is important to recognize and celebrate in our community. We hope this event will serve Tucson by bringing into focus how Title IX has positively transformed opportunities for women in sport in higher education. Also, we have integrated a youth experience portion of this event to connect the past of Title IX with its future."
