The Pima Community College softball team is grateful to have World Series champion Giselle Juarez as their coach.
Juarez, a Glendale native, played youth softball in Arizona, where she grew up, KGUN 9 Tucson reported. Juarez is now an assistant softball coach for the Pima Aztecs.
"We're all super honored to have her as coach," pitcher Faith Orton told KGUN 9 Tucson. "I used to think she was really good, and I thought it was awesome that she was a lefty, too."
Juarez's outstanding pitching helped earn her team, the University of Oklahoma Sooners, the Women's College World Series Title, KGUN 9 Tucson reported. She also earned Most Outstanding Player of the Series honors.
"I remember sitting at home and watching with my Mom and saying, 'G is so fierce and competitive,'" infielder Shannon Vivoda told KGUN 9 Tucson.
Juarez moved to Tucson due to her fiance enrolling in University of Arizona's medical school, KGUN 9 Tucson reported. She sought a coaching job in order to pay forward her own experience playing college softball.
"I just really wanted to give back because when I was younger, there was a college player who would have given back the same way I am now," Juarez told KGUN 9 Tucson.
To that end, Juarez contacted Rebekha Quiroz, the Aztecs' head softball coach, KGUN 9 Tucson reported.
"I was immediately on board," Quiroz told KGUN 9 Tucson. "It was all about the community and helping these girls any way that she can."
