Celebrate Día with a Grab N Go Kit!

Have you heard of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day)?

Commonly known as Día, this celebration is held annually on April 30th! It is a nationally recognized initiative—launched by award-winning children's book author Pat Mora in 1996—emphasizing the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds.

Día de los niños is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages and cultures. The goals of Día are to:

  • Celebrate children and connect them to the world of learning through books, stories and libraries.
  • Nurture cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace a child’s home language and culture.
  • Introduce families to community resources that provide opportunities for learning through multiple literacies.
  • Recognize and respect culture, heritage and language as powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.
We're celebrating Día with an Earth Day-themed Grab N Go kit!

The Library's Seed Library, Many Nations, and Nuestras Raíces teams are partnering on a Día Grab N Go kit. Beginning April 25, swing by any library to get your kit (while supplies last), which includes:

  • Learn more about Día with a fun fact sheet.
  • Find a list of books in English and Spanish about Earth Day.
  • Enjoy an Earth Day-themed coloring page.
  • Discover the life cycle of a seed and learn how to make your own small pot out of newspaper.
  • Try making Ants on a Log with a simple recipe.
  • Get information about One Seed Pima County: Crackerjack Marigolds (Cempasúchil) and a packet of seeds.

All materials will be in English and Spanish!
