University of Arizona Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 6.

The Wildcats won two more matches this weekend after their doubleheader against NM State at home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022. The Cats swept the Aggies in the morning match 7-0. And in the afternoon Arizona walked away with 4-0 win.

The Cats took both doubles points in the matches against NM State. Nick Lagaev and Jared Horwood were first off the court in the morning after they defeated Ryan Ford and Luca F d'Ostiani 6-1. Filip Malbasic and Carlos Hassey finalized the morning doubles point after beating Corey Clarke and Gijs Akkermans 6-2.

It was senior captain Conner Olsen and freshman Colton Smith who secured the afternoon doubles point after a 6-1 sweep against Fe d'Ostiani and Ford. Gustaf Strom and No. 53 Herman Hoeyeraal defeated Louis Menard and Jordy Visser in another 6-1 sweep.

The Wildcats did not drop a single singles point either. Hassey took the first singles point of the morning match winning 6-1 in two straight sets against Martin Simecek. Malbasic followed suit with 6-0, 6-1 sweep over Clarke. Jett Middleton defeated Itay Feigin 6-3, 6-0. Olsen won 6-4, 6-0 against Akkermans and Lagaev 6-1, 6-4 over Visser. Smith got the last singles point of the morning winning 6-2, 7-5 against Menard.

Hoeyeraal walked off the court first in the afternoon after a quick 6-2, 6-3 win against Simecek. Olsen was next with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Fe d'Ostiani. Horwood took the final point of the day after he beat Akkermans 6-1, 7-6. The other three afternoon singles matches were left unfinished.

No. 16 Arizona is now 7-2 after the weekend. The Cats will host another doubleheader next weekend against NAU on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
