University of Arizona Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
Arizona Baseball is set to kick off the 2022 season at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown, the program and the tournament announced today. The Wildcats will face off against Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech over the three-day test at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the home of Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers.
Arizona's first three games of the head coach Chip Hale era will be:
- Kansas State – Friday, Feb. 18 – 2:00 p.m. MST
- Oklahoma – Saturday, Feb. 19 – 6:00 p.m. MST
- Texas Tech – Sunday, Feb. 20 – 1:30 p.m. MST
The Wildcats three opponents in Arlington combined to post a 100-68 (.595) record last season, with Texas Tech advancing to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
Hale, in his first season leading his alma mater's storied program, returns to Globe Life Field for his first official game as the Wildcats skipper after closing out his tenure with the Detroit Tigers in the same ballpark last July.
Arizona returns a strong core of players from last season's College World Series run and compliments it with an accomplished incoming class of players as they look to make another postseason push in 2022.
The home of the Texas Rangers, Globe Life Field opened in March 2020. Designed with a retractable roof to be a premier multipurpose sports and entertainment venue, Globe Life Field has a baseball capacity of 40,518.
In addition to the season-opening tournament in Arlington, it was recently announced that the Pac-12 will begin hosting the Pac-12 Baseball Tournament beginning this season, to be hosted at Scottsdale Stadium. The remainder of the Wildcats 2022 schedule is expected to be released next week.
