Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Adult black and white body 271418

Tucson Police Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.

Domestic violence is a crime of emotion, it's about power and control. Please, do not be afraid to make the report, "end the silence, report domestic violence."

Oftentimes, people don’t realize they are in an abusive relationship because they are used to their partner calling them "crazy" or making them feel like the problems are their fault. Here are a few red flags to lookout for if you’re in an abusive relationship.

Your partner has threatened you, hit you, or strangled you. Your partner is possessive, they check up on you constantly wondering where you are. Your partner is overly jealous, (a small amount of jealousy is normal and healthy) however, if they accuse you of being unfaithful or isolate you from family or friends, that means the jealousy has gone too far. Your partner puts you down, or attacks your intelligence, looks, mental health, or capabilities. They blame you for all of their violent outbursts and tell you nobody else will want you if you leave.

TPD has partnered with several amazing community resources to help if you are in an abusive relationship.
