PIMA MEDICAL INSTITUTE-TUCSON: Pima Medical and Habitat for Humanity Partner Again

Humanity

Pima Medical Institute-Tucson issued the following announcement on Dec. 11

Months of hard work came to fruition December 5, as Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona dedicated another home to a deserving family. The home, located in Phoenix, was sponsored by Pima Medical Institute and the Luebke Family Foundation. While COVID-19 kept the dedication ceremony small, the excitement was palpable for those able to attend, including homeowner Vestine Ingabire.

Vestine and her three oldest daughters, Espair, Brenda and Yvonne moved from Rwanda to Arizona eight years ago. Since moving to Arizona, Vestine has been blessed with two more daughters, Sarah and Ruth. The family is exceptionally close, and this opportunity is something Vestine says she will cherish forever.

The family’s living situation prior to now left little to no room for the girls to run and play, and Vestine worried about their safety in the neighborhood. She heard about the program with Habitat for Humanity from a friend and was so excited to not only work to build her own home, but to help build her neighbors’ homes as well. Vestine and her family have been through a lot – refugee camps, and even times when there was only one bed for the whole family. This is more than a house. This is truly a home and a chance to create a better future, for her and her children.

“I am so grateful to have a chance to finally have a place we can call home,” said Ingabire.  “I have dreamt of this since I was little, and now it is real. Thank you for this new sense of independence for me and my daughters.”

Pima Medical Institute’s volunteers helped to build the house over a period of several months. A process that proved to be a source of joy in a world currently dealing with so much turbulence.

"Especially now, it is so important to serve, learn and to have some fun,” said Richard Luebke Jr., Pima Medical Institute Chairman of the Board.  “Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity has been rewarding for all of us. To see this family now have a secure and safe living environment is worth all the hard work. Seeing this type of happiness on the children’s faces is truly priceless."

Pima Medical Institute and the Luebke family have a long history of philanthropy and community involvement. For more information on Pima Medical Institute go to pmi.edu.
