Senator Jon Kyl served over twenty years in Congress representing Arizona. During his tenure he played key roles in shaping water policy—an area where the University of Arizona is also recognized internationally. According to ShanghaiRanking’s 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the University ranks No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 6 globally for its water resources program. The institution has also been involved in several research initiatives including partnerships with the United States Space Command and international projects focused on quantum communications and solar science advancement (source, source, source).

The university has recently expanded its outreach efforts through initiatives such as opening a tribal microcampus serving the Pascua Yaqui tribe and securing federal grants for international studies centers (source, source). These activities reflect a broader institutional mission aligned with some areas influenced by Senator Kyl during his legislative career.
