The University of Arizona marked the centennial of its iconic phrase “Bear Down” with a series of social media posts on April 1, 2026, reflecting on its significance to the Wildcat community.
In one post, the university described how the phrase is used in daily life: “Bear Down is what you say to a fellow Wildcat when you spot them wearing the Block A at the airport (in Indianapolis, maybe?). It’s what you tell a friend when they’re nervous before a big exam.” (April 1, 2026)
Another message emphasized the enduring role of “Bear Down” over generations: “For a century, ‘Bear Down’ has carried Wildcats in defining moments. It’s the phrase we say when victory is earned and the one we lean on when the path ahead is uncertain. In triumph, it is pride. In challenge, it is resolve.” (April 1, 2026)
The university also invited followers to learn more about this tradition and other campus stories: “Want the full story behind Bear Down and more examples of Wildcat moments? https://t.co/53WIPsC89k” (April 1, 2026)
