This week in City of Tucson history.

Sean Michael Elliott Born on February 2, 1968

Sean Michael Elliott was born on February 2, 1968, in Tucson, Arizona. He showed early talent in basketball at Cholla High School, leading his team to state championships. At the University of Arizona, he played under Coach Lute Olson, setting records and earning the John R. Wooden Award. Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 1989, he became a key player and helped the team win their first NBA Championship in 1999. Diagnosed with kidney disease, he received a transplant from his brother, Noel, and returned to play in 2000. After retiring in 2001, he worked as a broadcaster for the Spurs. His jersey number, 32, was retired by both the University of Arizona and the Spurs. Sean Elliott remains connected to Tucson, supporting local causes and inspiring many with his story of talent and perseverance.
