John Paul “Pete” McCaffrey was born December 24, 1938 in Tucson

John Paul “Pete” McCaffrey was born on December 24, 1938, in Missouri. He became known for his basketball skills, playing for the United States men’s national team. In 1963, he competed in the FIBA World Championship, where the team finished fourth. In 1964, he played in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, winning a gold medal with the U.S. team. After his basketball career, Pete moved to Tucson, Arizona, in the early 1970s. He coached youth basketball, mentored young athletes, and became a respected community member. Pete also invested in local businesses and supported charities, making a lasting impact in Tucson. He died on March 4, 2012, leaving a legacy of excellence in sports and community service.
