Agents with the Tucson sector of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the arrest of a U.S. citizen and five illegal aliens on April 2 at the State Route 86 immigration checkpoint. Sector Chief Sean McGoffin shared this information in a post on X on April 11.
In his post, Chief Patrol Agent Sean McGoffin wrote that the driver of the vehicle had two prior arrests for alien smuggling and will face a range of charges, including smuggling, harboring, concealment, and transportation. Three of the five illegal aliens were dressed in camouflage clothing, and all were clearly visible as they attempted to hide in the backseat. All five of the illegal aliens face Alien Inadmissibility charges, with one also facing a Re-entry charge. According to McGoffin, Tucson CBP is working with the U.S. Attorney’s office as the incident is under investigation.
The Tucson Sector covers much of Arizona, stretching approximately 262 miles from the New Mexico border to Yuma County’s border. The sector employs about 3,700 agents across nine stations located in Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox. Originally known as the Nogales Sector, it was established on July 1, 1924, with the sector headquarters relocating to Tucson two years later.
