The University of Arizona has been recognized as a top research institution, securing the No. 1 spot globally in entomology according to EduRank's Best Universities in the World rankings, released on March 2. The university is ranked No. 43 worldwide, No. 37 in the United States, and No. 20 among U.S. public colleges and universities.
"Our stellar performance across such a wide range of disciplines reaffirms the University of Arizona's standing as a top-tier global research institution," said Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, U of A senior vice president for research and innovation. "These rankings reflect the dedication of our extraordinary research community – faculty, postdocs, students and staff – who are pioneering discoveries that address the many challenges we face as a society."
The entomology program at U of A received its highest recognition by being ranked first globally. Bruce Tabashnik, Regents Professor and head of the Department of Entomology, stated, "The Department of Entomology is remarkably collaborative, with synergistic contributions from students, staff, postdocs and faculty. We have a passion for generating, sharing and applying knowledge about insects to improve the quality of life for people in Arizona, our nation and beyond."
In addition to entomology, U of A achieved notable rankings in several other fields:
- Astrobiology: No. 2 in the U.S., No. 2 globally
- Hydrology and water resources management: No. 3 in the U.S., No. 8 globally
- Remote sensing: No. 5 in the U.S., No. 7 globally
- Astrophysics/astronomy: No. 7 in the U.S., No. 9 globally
- Performing arts: No. 7 in the U.S., No. 11 globally
- Petrology and geochemistry: No. 7 in the U.S., No. 12 globally
- Landscape architecture: No. 7 in the U.S., No. 14 globally
- Interior design: No. 7 in the U.S., No. 16 globally
