Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Tucson Sector have arrested two individuals with convictions for sex crimes against children in separate incidents. The information was shared in a February 13 post on X by Sean McGoffin, Chief Patrol Agent for the Tucson sector.

According to the post on X, which references a CBP news release, one of the men, Jose Portillo-Ventura, a Mexican national, had felony convictions in Connecticut for rape of a victim under 14 and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The other individual, German Miranda Tapia, a Honduran citizen, had felony convictions in Kansas for child rape and intercourse with a relative under 16. Both men had been previously removed from the United States and now face felony prosecution for re-entry as aggravated felons. They will be removed from the country again.

The Tucson sector covers approximately 262 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border from the New Mexico line to Yuma County, Arizona. It is staffed by around 3,700 agents across nine stations located in Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox, Arizona.
