1,000 migrants apprehended during the week ending Jan. 3

Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested 1,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally during the week ending January 3. This information was disclosed in a January 3 post on X by Chief Patrol Agent Sean McGoffin.

According to McGoffin, agents seized 50 pounds of methamphetamine, disrupted four narcotics events, and made one significant arrest. They also rescued four people and seized two firearms. Additionally, 134 federal cases were accepted within the sector during the week, and agents stopped 15 human smuggling events.

The Tucson sector covers much of Arizona, stretching from the border of New Mexico to Yuma County's border, approximately spanning 262 miles. There are about 3,700 agents stationed across nine locations within this sector: Why, Casa Grande, Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Three Points, and Wilcox. This information is available on CBP’s webpage dedicated to the sector. Originally known as the Nogales Sector and established on July 1, 1924, the headquarters moved to Tucson two years later.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for safeguarding national borders and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates in 328 ports of entry and protects approximately 7,000 miles of land borders and 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
