The City of Tucson has unveiled new neon signs in the Miracle Mile Historic District as part of the "Miracle Mile Branding Signage" Action Activity under the Thrive in the 05 initiative. The Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) worked with the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation to install four neon signs along North Oracle Road, West Miracle Mile, and North Stone Avenue.

Jude Cook of Cook Signs, LLC crafted these signs using Dirk Arnold's original design from his Gateway Saguaro project at North Oracle Road and West Drachman Street. HCD Planning Administrator Alison Miller emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “The neon signs and motor courts along the historic Miracle Mile tell a unique story about the development of Tucson and represent an important sense of place for the Thrive in the 05 community.”

Alongside these neon installations, 27 sign toppers and 35 banners have been placed on light poles as part of this effort. The Miracle Mile Historic District was recognized by being listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

This recent addition complements previous work such as restoring the Tucson Inn neon sign through a partnership with Pima Community College. Thrive in the 05 is focused on revitalizing a specific area within Tucson's 85705 zip code, defined by boundaries including Miracle Mile to Speedway Boulevard and Stone Avenue to Interstate-10.

Action Activities are crucial for implementing Thrive in the 05's Transformation Plan, supported by $1.5 million from various public funds including Choice Neighborhoods and Community Development Block Grant. These activities aim to rejuvenate the area while fostering community engagement.

The Thrive in the 05 Transformation Plan received approval from Tucson's Mayor and Council on March 9, 2022. Further details about ongoing projects can be found at thriveinthe05.tucsonaz.gov.
