Joseph Glover has been appointed as the University of Arizona's new senior vice president of academic affairs and provost. His term will begin on July 1. Previously, Glover served as provost at the University of Florida for 15 years, where he contributed to the university's rise in national rankings and expanded its research expenditures.

Glover played a significant role in advancing UF's AI initiative and facilitated the hiring of over 600 faculty members, including those focused on artificial intelligence. He also implemented a new budget model during his tenure.

University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins expressed confidence in Glover's capabilities, stating, "Dr. Glover's experience and priorities as a leader reflect our university values, and his track record of academic excellence, faculty support and collaborative leadership will benefit our students, faculty, staff and community."

The appointment follows a national search led by a committee chaired by Alain-Philippe Durand and Joellen Russell. Ronald W. Marx has been serving as interim senior vice president since July 2023.

Glover remarked on his new role: "The University of Arizona is an extraordinary land-grant institution with a rich heritage and limitless potential, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an outstanding faculty and staff community to foster academic excellence, innovation and inclusivity."

Joellen Russell commented on the selection process: "We have a lot of tremendous talent at the University of Arizona, and I'm just thrilled we had such high caliber candidates."

Glover holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego. His expertise includes probability theory and stochastic processes. He has also been involved with grants from various institutions such as the National Science Foundation.
