Several graduate programs at the University of Arizona have been recognized in U.S. News & World Report's Best Graduate Schools rankings. The latest rankings, released on April 9, highlight various disciplines where the university has excelled.
The Eller College of Management's management information systems program received top honors among public universities and ranked third overall, following the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University. The James E. Rogers College of Law achieved a significant ranking in legal writing, tying for eighth place overall and fifth among public universities.
University President Robert C. Robbins expressed satisfaction with the results: "I am thrilled to see so many different fields of study rightfully recognized among the nation's very best graduate programs."
The College of Nursing showed notable improvement, moving up 12 places to tie for 19th in doctoral programs and climbing 11 spots to reach 30th in master's programs.
In other categories, the College of Education performed well in higher education administration, ranking 16th overall and 11th among public institutions. Other notable placements include Eller’s business analytics MBA program tied at No. 36 and its accounting program tied at No. 40.
The College of Law also made it to No. 55 on the Best Law Schools list with several specialties receiving individual recognition:
- Environmental law (tied for No. 30)
- Health care law (tied for No. 34)
- International law (tied for No. 38)
- Business/corporate law (tied for No. 42)
- Criminal law (tied for No. 43)
U.S. News & World Report ranks schools based on expert opinions about program excellence as well as statistical indicators that assess faculty quality, research, and students' achievements.
Beyond annual rankings, U.S. News also periodically evaluates programs based solely on academic experts’ ratings across various fields such as sciences and social sciences.
Previous surveys placed UArizona’s photography program high on the list at third overall and second among public universities, while its Earth sciences doctoral program was ranked fourth overall.
Additionally, last year saw strong performances from other departments including Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics as well as a top-ten placement for rehabilitation counseling within the College of Education.
