Joseph Glover has been appointed as the new senior vice president of academic affairs and provost at the University of Arizona. Glover, who previously held a similar position at the University of Florida, will begin his new role on July 1.

Glover, a mathematician by training, served as provost at the University of Florida for 15 years before stepping down in July 2023. During his tenure, he played a key role in elevating UF to a top-five ranking among U.S. public institutions according to U.S. News & World Report. He also expanded UF's research expenditures beyond $1 billion and spearheaded initiatives such as the university's AI program.

University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins expressed confidence in Glover's leadership abilities: "Dr. Glover's experience and priorities as a leader reflect our university values, and his track record of academic excellence, faculty support and collaborative leadership will benefit our students, faculty, staff and community."

The appointment followed an extensive national search process that included input from a diverse committee chaired by Alain-Philippe Durand and Joellen Russell. Ronald W. Marx has served as interim senior vice president and provost since July 2023.

In response to his appointment, Glover stated: "The University of Arizona is an extraordinary land-grant institution with a rich heritage and limitless potential, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an outstanding faculty and staff community to foster academic excellence, innovation and inclusivity."

Before his administrative career, Glover was recognized for his contributions in mathematics education at UF. His academic background includes a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego.

Joellen Russell noted the significance of Glover's decision to join UArizona: "We have a lot of tremendous talent at the University of Arizona... Dr. Glover recognized our potential and is choosing to join us from one of the top public universities in the country."

Glover has been involved with several national organizations related to public universities and has secured funding through grants from various agencies including the National Science Foundation.
