The University of Arizona (UArizona) has been recognized as one of the top universities globally in the latest Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The 2024 edition places UArizona at No. 93, marking a two-spot improvement from its previous position in 2023. Among U.S. institutions, it is ranked No. 48 and stands at No. 26 among public colleges and universities.
This ranking positions UArizona within the top 0.5% of nearly 21,000 colleges and universities worldwide. A significant factor contributing to this achievement is the number of faculty members who have received major academic distinctions, with UArizona securing the No. 69 spot overall in this category.
"We are thrilled to see the Center for World University Rankings once again recognize the University of Arizona for its stellar academic and research accomplishments," stated University President Robert C. Robbins. He added that "this university prides itself on providing a platform for internationally recognized research scholars who consistently develop groundbreaking solutions to address the world's most pressing challenges."
The CWUR rankings are based on several indicators: quality of education (25%), employability (25%), quality of faculty (10%), and various aspects of research performance including output, high-quality publications, influence, and citations each contributing another 10%.
UArizona's overall score was bolstered by its performance in both quality-of-faculty (ranked No. 69) and research performance (ranked No. 111).
CWUR emphasizes student-related and faculty-related indicators equally without relying on surveys or university data submissions. This year's rankings were compiled using over 62 million outcome-based data points.
