The University of Arizona is set to honor seven graduating seniors at its 160th Commencement ceremony on May 10. These students have been recognized for their significant achievements and contributions both academically and within their communities.
Among the awardees, Taylor Cavallaro will receive the Provost Award. Cavallaro, who transferred from Coconino Community College, is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in plant sciences and a minor in French. His academic journey was inspired by his love for nature and science. After graduation, he plans to pursue a doctoral degree at Stanford University.
Shinhye Chloe Park has been awarded the Robie Gold Medal for her personal integrity and community service efforts. Graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry, Park's journey took her from South Korea to Tucson. She has been involved in various mentorship roles and research projects focused on health care access.
Noah Weaver will be honored with the Robert Logan Nugent Award. He is completing a double major in physiology, medical science, and public health along with minors in Spanish and biochemistry. Weaver's focus has been on addressing health disparities among underserved populations.
Andrew Prouty will also receive the Robert Logan Nugent Award for his leadership within the W.A. Franke Honors College and his commitment to healthcare service initiatives. Prouty plans to pursue a medical degree after graduation.
Larissa Lazaro Roncador is recognized with an award for her work as an international student advocate while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She aims to further her studies in children's counseling post-graduation.
Nguyen Dang receives the Merrill P. Freeman Medal for outstanding character demonstrated through his involvement in sustainability initiatives and food safety research. Dang plans to continue his education at UArizona with a master's degree focusing on applied biosciences.
Bao "Tintin" Nguyen graduates summa cum laude with honors degrees in physics, astronomy, and mathematics. His passion for astrophysics led him to conduct significant research on black holes under UArizona mentors' guidance.
