The University of Arizona has been recognized as a leader in more than three dozen academic disciplines, according to the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject. Released on April 10 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the rankings analyze over 16,000 individual programs at more than 1,500 universities across 96 locations worldwide. These rankings cover 55 academic disciplines and five broad subject areas: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, social sciences and management.
"We are proud the University of Arizona stands out in such a wide variety of academic and research disciplines in the QS World University Rankings," said University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins. "The University's mission centers on world-class education delivered by scholars on the cutting edge in their respective fields, and rankings like this reflect our success in that mission."
The University of Arizona achieved recognition in 37 categories. Notable rankings include Archaeology at No. 18 globally and No. 6 in the U.S., Geology tied for No. 30 globally and No. 15 in the U.S., Geophysics tied for No. 32 globally and No. 15 in the U.S., Earth and marine sciences tied for No. 33 globally and tied for No. 16 in the U.S., Library and information management tied for No. 36 globally and No. 14 in the U.S., Anthropology at No. 39 globally and No. 14 in the U.S., Mineral and mining engineering tied for No. 41 globally and No. 6 in the U.S., Linguistics at No. 41 globally and No. 16 in the U.S.
QS uses five key metrics to compile these subject rankings with varying weightings depending on each discipline's specifics.
In other ranking news, Animation Career Review released its Illustration School Rankings on April 5, where UArizona's Illustration, Design, and Animation program ranked as follows: No. 34 nationally, No.10 among public schools, and No.4 in the Southwest region.
Animation Career Review evaluates programs based on several criteria including academic reputation, employment data, admission selectivity, program depth and breadth, value concerning tuition costs versus indebtedness levels, graduation rates, as well as retention rates.
