Robert C. Robbins has announced his decision to step down as President of the University of Arizona after completing his current contract. In a message addressed to students and colleagues, Robbins stated that he had informed the Arizona Board of Regents about his decision. He also mentioned that if a new president is appointed before the end date of his contract, he would ensure a smooth transition.

Robbins expressed that stepping down was a difficult yet necessary decision for both him and the university. Reflecting on his tenure, Robbins highlighted achievements such as enhancing the student experience, attracting world-class faculty, increasing research funding, and engaging with indigenous tribes and rural communities.

"The past 18 months certainly have been difficult for our University," Robbins noted, but he remains confident in the institution's ability to overcome challenges through passion and commitment.

He emphasized his intent to work with ABOR to facilitate a seamless transition when appropriate. "I am grateful to the Regents for their ongoing support of our work," Robbins added.

Robbins' contract is scheduled to conclude in June 2026. However, he remains open to stepping aside earlier if needed.
