On November 11, 2024, the Valencia Road Improvement Project between Kolb Road and Houghton Road will commence. The City of Tucson has contracted Borderland Construction to initiate this project by clearing and constructing the roadway on the north side of Valencia Road. During this initial phase, traffic patterns will remain unchanged. By mid-2025, traffic will shift to the northern side as crews begin work on the southern side of the road.

Construction activities are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional night work possible.

Upon completion, the project will feature a widened six-lane roadway with landscaped median islands, improved drainage systems, facilities for bicycles and pedestrians, lighting, public art installations, and more. The anticipated completion date is mid-2026.

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), an independently governed political subdivision of Arizona, has allocated over $1.4 billion towards transportation projects aimed at enhancing mobility, safety, economic vitality, and quality of life in the region. Funding for these projects comes from a half-cent sales tax collected within Pima County's special taxing district as part of a 20-year regional transportation plan approved by voters in May 2006. The Valencia Road project is included in this RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.

For further details or inquiries about this project or other issues, residents can contact local authorities via phone at 311 or visit Tucson 311 online.
