On October 10, 2024, U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani visited Pacheco Farms in Marana, Arizona. The visit aimed to discuss the significance of passing the Farm Bill with representatives from the Arizona Farm Bureau and the Arizona Cotton Growers Association.
Ciscomani emphasized cotton's role in Arizona's economy and its importance to the textile industry. "As one of Arizona's five 'C’s', cotton is critical to our local economy and a staple of our nation’s textile industry," he stated. He further expressed his pleasure at visiting Pacheco Farm and discussing the necessity of a supportive Farm Bill for agriculture.
The Farm Bill outlines agricultural priorities and policies for five years, including nutrition programs that assist millions of Americans. The current version was passed in 2018, reauthorized in 2023, and is set to expire this year.
Earlier this year, on May 24, the House Agriculture Committee approved H.R. 8467—the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024—to reauthorize the Farm Bill. In September, Ciscomani joined fellow House Republicans in urging GOP leadership to prioritize a comprehensive Farm Bill.
Additionally, Ciscomani co-authored an op-ed with Stefanie Smallhouse, President of the Arizona Farm Bureau, advocating for prompt passage of a new Farm Bill.
