The City of Tucson Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) is reaching out to the community for participation in a virtual meeting regarding changes to Tucson's adaptive reuse regulations. This initiative comes in response to the recent passing of HB2297 by the Arizona State Legislature, which mandates that by January 1, 2025, at least 10% of all existing commercial, office, or mixed-use buildings be repurposed for multi-family residential development or adaptive reuse.

Tucson’s Mayor and Council have previously adopted local codes supporting the reuse and reinvestment in older, nonconforming buildings. However, with the new state legislation in place, further updates are necessary. On June 18, 2024, the Mayor and Council instructed staff to amend city codes to comply with the state's municipal zoning requirements.

The PDSD is encouraging community feedback on these proposed modifications to Tucson’s development standards as stipulated by the State Legislature. The virtual meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and will be held via Zoom.

For inquiries about the upcoming meeting or changes related to adaptive reuse regulations, individuals can contact Principal Planner Carver Struve at carver.struve@tucsonaz.gov.

Questions or suggestions can also be directed through Tucson's communication channels by calling 311 or visiting Tucson 311 online.
