The Tucson Development Center (TDC) Online will introduce several new features starting October 1 to improve the customer experience for permit and plan applications.

One of the significant changes involves adjusting review time frames in the permitting system. The City of Tucson aims to exclude weekends and holidays from these time frames, addressing current issues where due dates fall on non-working days, leading to missed or overdue reviews. This adjustment is expected to provide more accurate due date expectations.

Another feature being introduced is geo rules. These rules will offer zoning information based on property addresses, including details about historic zones, special districts, overlays, and flood zones when applying for a new permit or plan. The geo rules notification will also direct users to resources for further research on identified zones.

The Electrical Reconnect Permit process is also undergoing redesign to simplify and speed up review and inspection scheduling. Document and material uploads will no longer be required; instead, applications will be reviewed solely to ensure there are no active permits on the property. This specific permit is intended for restoring power to occupiable buildings after a period of being depowered.

It should be noted that the fee for the Electrical Reconnect Only Permit has become non-refundable. If an application is denied or if an inspection fails due to additional work needed at the property, the fee will not be refunded or applied towards any other permit. Applicants are advised to carefully review application details before submission.

For any questions regarding these updates, individuals can contact pdsdinquiries@tucsonaz.gov or call 520-791-5550. Additionally, inquiries can be made by calling 311 or visiting Tucson 311 online.
