U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) issued a statement following the House of Representatives' failure to pass H.R. 9494, the Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act, 2025.

"Secure elections are the cornerstone of our representative democracy, we must have absolute certainty in the security and integrity of our federal elections, which is why I was proud to support H.R. 8281, the SAVE Act when it passed the House in July and again today," said Ciscomani. "At the same time, we must prevent a government shutdown. A shutdown is bad policy that would halt the smooth functioning of critical federal agencies, like the Department of Veterans Affairs, and harm our federal employees, including members of the Armed Forces, Border Patrol agents, postal workers, air traffic control, and more who would be furloughed or have their pay delayed. While the legislation proposed today isn’t perfect, it would have addressed both of these issues. A majority of House Republicans supported this effort but I am frustrated that it did not pass. I will continue to work with anyone – on either side of the aisle - to keep the government open, support our federal workers, and safeguard the security of our electoral system."
