James Jerry Hardy was born on August 19, 1982, in Tucson, Arizona. His parents, Mark and Judy, welcomed him into a family with a love for sports. From a young age, James showed a strong interest in baseball.

He attended Sabino High School in Tucson, where he excelled in baseball. His talent on the field earned him recognition and a path to professional baseball. After high school, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2001 MLB Draft.

James made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2005. He quickly established himself as a reliable shortstop. In 2010, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins, where he continued to perform well. The following year, he joined the Baltimore Orioles. With the Orioles, he became known for his strong defensive skills and clutch hitting.
