University of Arizona excels in latest US News global ranking

The University of Arizona has been recognized as one of the world's leading research institutions in the 2024-2025 Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Out of 2,250 higher education institutions across more than 100 countries, UArizona secured the No. 115 position overall. Among U.S. universities, it ranked No. 44 and was placed No. 23 among public universities.

The ranking positions UArizona within the top 10% of all evaluated universities globally. In the space science category, UArizona achieved its highest scores, ranking No. 8 worldwide, No. 6 in the U.S., and No. 2 among public universities due to its research reputation and high number of citations and publications.

In addition to space sciences, UArizona maintained strong standings in water resources (No. 2 in the U.S., No. 29 globally) and geosciences (No. 10 in the U.S., No. 25 globally). The university also received top-100 global placements for programs in meteorology and atmospheric sciences (No. 47), environment/ecology (No. 59), arts and humanities (tied for No. 78), and plant/animal sciences (No. 78).

"I am continually in awe of the brilliant scientists and scholars who teach and conduct research at the University of Arizona," said University President Robert C. Robbins. "Their groundbreaking discoveries across a wide variety of disciplines help foster an environment of bold thinking that is necessary to address and solve the world’s biggest challenges."

U.S. News & World Report's Best Global Universities ranks colleges and universities across 51 subjects – up from 47 since October 2022 – with UArizona earning spots on 38 subject-specific lists.

The university's overall research reputation was ranked No. 47 in the U.S., placing it at No. 98 globally.

These rankings offer insight into how research institutions compare worldwide based on data from Clarivate Analytics, focusing on global and regional reputation as well as academic research performance through indicators such as citations and publications.
