Convicted rapist illegal alien arrested west of Nogales

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents arrested Jose Castro-Ramirez, a convicted felon and rapist, near Nogales. John Modlin, CBP’s chief patrol agent in the Tucson Sector, announced the arrest on X on June 4. 

"Jose Castro-Ramirez, an aggravated felon, was arrested by USBP agents west of Nogales, AZ," Modlin posted. "The Mexican national has multiple felony convictions including rape in the first-degree w/ a weapon, burglary, and possession w/ intent to distribute marijuana. He faces criminal charges."

The Tucson Sector reported weekly statistics on June 7, counting 7,500 apprehensions, 241 Federal Criminal Cases, and 23 human smuggling events in the past week. According to their Facebook post, the sector also has six significant events, 6 narcotics events, and 4 firearm seizures.

During fiscal year 2024 to date, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has arrested 29,296 illegal aliens who have previous criminal convictions or who are wanted by law enforcement.

That’s according to an analysis of CBP data conducted by Tucson Standard

10,925 of these arrests have been made by the U.S. Border Patrol, and 18,572 of these arrests have been made by the CBP’s Office of Field Operations. The CBP’s 2024 fiscal year runs from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.

One of the nine sectors of the U.S.-Mexico border is the Tucson Sector, which covers 262 border miles and includes all of the Arizona-Mexico border and parts of the California-Mexico border. 

Modlin joined the US Border Patrol in 1995 and has since worked in a variety of positions in the San Diego Sector, Detroit Sector, Miami Sector, and several posts on either coast.
