The Grant Road Improvement Project, spanning from Alvernon Way to Swan Road (Sparkman Boulevard to Venice Place), is set to commence on Monday, May 20, 2024. The project will be undertaken by Granite Construction under a contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility. Work will initially begin at the western limit of the project, at Sparkman Boulevard, and progress eastward.

To minimize disruption to the public, the first phase of work, which includes relocating underground utilities, will occur during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Lane restrictions will be implemented during this period.

Upon completion, the improvement project will feature six travel lanes, landscaped medians, buffered bike lanes, sidewalks, transit stop upgrades, indirect left turns and protected intersection improvements at Alvernon Way and Grant Road. A 96-inch diameter underground storm drain system will also be constructed throughout the project limits. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026.

More information about this project can be found at www.grantroad.info.

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), an independently governed political subdivision of the state, has invested over $1.4 billion in transportation projects and services aimed at enhancing mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA funds its 20-year regional transportation plan through a half-cent excise (sales) tax collected from its special taxing district within Pima County. This plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006.

The Grant Road Phase 3&4 Improvement Project forms part of this RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson. Additional information can be obtained from www.RTAmobility.com.
