Crews from American Road Maintenance, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are resuming fog seal applications on various roadway segments throughout the City of Tucson, following a pause due to weather.

The fog seal work, aimed at improving the quality and safety of Tucson's streets, will be conducted during nighttime hours from Sunday night through Friday morning. According to the DTM, the decision to work at night is to minimize the impact on the traveling public.

The application of fog seal follows a crack seal treatment that was previously applied to the roadway segments in 2023, as stated by the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM).

The upcoming week's schedule includes work on several roadways, including Sabino Canyon Road, Tanque Verde Road, Wilmot Road, and Stone Avenue. The fog sealing process involves applying a thin layer of asphalt emulsion to cover small imperfections and cracks in the road surface, ultimately preserving and rejuvenating the asphalt.

Travel lane restrictions will be in place during the work, but efforts will be made to maintain at least one lane of travel in both directions. Drivers in the affected areas are advised to expect delays, obey traffic control signs, and be cautious of construction personnel and equipment.

The fog seal work is part of the voter-approved Prop 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program, a $100 million improvement initiative funded by a half-cent sales tax increase approved by Tucson voters in May 2017.

The City of Tucson expresses gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding as efforts are made to enhance the city's road infrastructure.
