WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) has been appointed to the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Agencies (SFOPS) Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee following the conclusion of the FY2024 appropriations process.

The SFOPS Subcommittee plays a crucial role in shaping Congress’ budget for top national security and foreign affairs agencies, which include the Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Department of Treasury’s International Financial Institutions. Ciscomani participated in his first hearing as a subcommittee member earlier today, with the livestream available for viewing.

In a statement, Ciscomani emphasized the importance of American strength and diplomacy on the global stage amidst growing threats from adversaries. He highlighted the need for a focus on protecting national security, supporting allies, and eliminating threats while also aiming to reduce government spending and increase oversight into the Biden administration. Ciscomani also expressed his honor in following the footsteps of his mentor, Jim Kolbe, who previously served as Chairman on the subcommittee.

Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-26) welcomed Ciscomani's appointment, praising him as an effective leader committed to fiscal responsibility and government accountability. Diaz-Balart emphasized the importance of upholding American values to promote freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.

Ciscomani, the sole member of the Arizona delegation on the House Appropriations Committee, now holds a significant role in shaping foreign affairs and national security policies. His full committee and subcommittee assignments can be accessed for further details.
